By “Real Vacation” I mean: Do whatever you have to to clear your mind. Don’t think about anything. Think about nothing.
I recently came back from a long week in Mexico (Riviera Maya – Secrets Capri) and it was indeed a REAL vacation. I highly recommend it as a “Real Vacation” spot.

Dr. Pepper makes a good point, but I think your message is still valid. Just as a business owner must get out of the day-to-day to work ON their business, we have to get out of the day-to-day of our lives to work ON our lives and not just IN them. For some people, it takes some real distance or change to engage that mindset.

Here's a tip for a real vacation experience: disengage totally.
I mean it. Turn off the cell phone, the laptop, every tether that you can think of that anyone can use to reach you.
You'll jones for a couple of days, then the withdrawal is over and you can actually enjoy the relaxation of your real vacation.
Remember, the world doesn't end if you're unavailable to your boss for a bit.

Wow...all great points.
Kendra, you hit the nail on the head: "we have to get out of the day-to-day of our lives to work ON our lives and not just IN them."
And do do that ...you gotta.."Turn off the cell phone, the laptop, every tether that you can think of that anyone can use to reach you."
So critical that we all take time to chill out.

and a real vacation is not visiting family...I LOVE my family but...I usually need a vacation after the vacation :)
Thanks for the insightful post

I think real vacation is make a trip to around the world. May be I need 2 months to get my mind get fresh then back to work :)

For a mini vacation turn off all communication devices during:
breakfast, lunch (espcially when with a friend/non-coworker), dinner, workout, spa treatment, movie, yard work, reading a fun book, first date, driving, sleeping, and the biggie (drum roll) in the bathroom, especially a public bathroom.
Putting a phone on silent or vibrate during these events does not count.
Ask an older person - someone in their 60's,70's,80's,90's. They got along and actually survived without constant communication. One of them might even tell you "Be it bad news or really good news, it will find you."
Thank you Grandmama. Love ya.

It's difficult to have Real Vacation when you work with Internet. Wherever you are you want to see the mobile phone, the e-mails, and so on. But I'll try to follow the tips.
