When asked by people how I classify my blog or my relationship to it, I often find myself confused as to how I should respond. What, exactly, is this blog about?
The long answer is somewhat rambling and might go like this:
"It's a personal blog with a focus on Washington, DC culture, not limited to restaurants, music and miscellaneous event reviews as well as stories related to relationships and dating, with a sprinkling of other trials and tribulations specific to a 20-something professional trying to find her way."
Whew, that's a mouthful. The short answer, though less descriptive, is perhaps more apt. What am I? I'm a lunch break blogger. And this is a lunch break blog.
It has a bit of a ring to it, no? Struck by my own cleverness, I did a quick Google search to see if I'm the first to coin the phrase. It yielded a mere 7 results, only 4 of whom used the exact phrasing. So, I may not be the very first to call myself a 'lunch break blogger,' but I'm pretty darned close.
The term 'lunch break blogger' doesn't just refer to the time during which I post. Yes, as working woman, the only time I have available to me is my lunch break. But it's more than timing-- a lunch break blogger discusses things that occur to him or her on a lunch break basis.
That means posts span a wide range of topics; anything from political musings to a terrible date to what I ate for dinner last night. Posts are lunch-time thoughts and might very well be the topic of conversations with coworkers. Lunch break blogs are glimpses into the conversations people have every day over saran wrapped tuna fish sandwiches and Chinese delivery. The pulse of a hungry nation, if you will.
Of course, some lunch break blogs are better than others. Blogs are a lot like people; some are more fun to be around. I like to think I keep things pretty funny around here. Lunch break blogs, like lunch itself, should be light and airy. Not so say they can't touch on serious subjects, but by and large, lunch should be an enjoyable experience.
Would you classify yourself as a bunch break blogger? And if not, what are you? There are, after all, many meals in a day.
