I am so not motivated lately. I don’t know if it is because I am overwhelmed, drained, lazy, defeated, or some combination of all of the above. I don’t want to get out of bed in the morning. I don’t want to go to work. I don’t want to clean my house. I don’t want to exercise. I can’t stop eating and shopping. I’m no psychologist, but I would say I have a problem.

Something just feels off in my life and I just can’t seem to muster up the energy to get it back on track. I don’t even know where to start.

The funny thing is that I don’t feel sad or anxious or upset about anything. I’m not depressed. In fact I’m pretty content or even happy most of the time.

There are things I want to change, like the amount of dog hair in my house and the size of the fat cells on my body but I just can’t get motivated to actually do anything.

I am so tired. My routine feels so off. I have no energy to push myself. And this is so not me.

That is why I feel like I need a drill sergeant to get back on track. I need someone to blow a whistle in my face every morning, tell me my tasks for that day, and stay on me until I get them done.

I’m at a loss. I need help. Any advice?

Well, the good news is that you're completely capable of being your own drill sergeant. You can create your own momentum. Start small then build on it. Holly Hoffman has this great post about doing the spiritual dishes. I wish I had a link but maybe google will find it?.

Anyhoo, I've been there and all I can tell you there are some consequences from staying in this phase too long. Getting out of it starts and ends with you. I hope it gets better

Have you ever checked out flylady.com? She sends drill sergeant-like emails through out the day, designed to help people stay on task with household chores. Some people really do well with those type of emails.

Me? Not so much. But one thing I learned from Flylady, though, is "You can do anything for ten minutes." Sometimes you can motivate yourself to complete an unwanted task by giving yourself permission to only do it for a limited amount of time. Set a timer, and tell yourself that when the 10 minutes are up, you will do something you want to do... read a book, or check your Facebook. A lot of times, that 10 minutes on task is all the motivation you need to keep going... You can get a lot done in 10 minutes.

Also, though, even though you say you're not depressed, it sure sounds like you are. Maybe now would be a good time to reach out to a friend or family member in real life and share your situation.

Hope things turn around soon.

Dont you worry. I got through lulls like this often. Many times its every Sunday evening b/c I know I have to go to work. I often reflect back at the last week and realize how unproductive I have been.

My advice? Simplify your life. Focus on those aspects that affect you the most, both good and bad and try and come up with methods to keep you entertained and on your toes.

My biggest thing has been my physical fitness. I workout alone and have not been very disciplined in the gym. So i started working out with a friend of mine and he has kept my a$$ on track in there. Good luck girl. Keep us posted.
