If you aren’t sure what to do after graduation, consider internships as an alternative to going to graduate school, working for minimum wage in a food service or retail job or job hunting

This is good advice for those that hold the wage slave mentality. Stay late at a job? What makes them think other commitments are any less important.
The most important things with internships is experience--paid or not. An internship is only as good as the networking opportunities and skills you are able to walk away with. That said, while skill development is important, if offered the chance to do coffee runs at a reputable place in the field you want to work in, you are better off going with the "name brand" then getting more actual work experience in a family owned type of business.
