On number 3: Most marriage counselors agree that fights over money and finances are one of the leading causes for marital discord and divorce. With layoffs, foreclosures and loss of healthcare, these have intensified this dynamic, to the detriment of couples. Just look at the divorce rate in areas hit hardest by the recession.
While I think there is some validity in some of these trends, I think that we're attributing too many things to this recession business. We can totally acknowledge that it has changed everything to do with consumption that we can think of, but the arguments for things such as relationships should be taken with a grain of salt at some point.
Just sayin' is all.
@JRandom 42 - Thanks for adding that info. It definitely makes sense that finance would be the largest source of marital discord, and I'll be interested to see how the trend develops. Do you happen to have a link about these divorce rates? If so I'd be interested.
@Mehnaz - Even though I do believe the recession has a legitimate effect on some numbers, I'm totally with you at the same time. It gets pretty comical how everything in the news revolves around recession trends!
