Everyone has routines and habits that are hard to shake. You always get a bagel in the morning because it’s easy and fast. You’ll buy a book and put it on the shelf because you don’t have time to read it. The situation that I experience most often is trying something new that breaks routine and makes you go beyond your comfort zone. It’s easy to say no because it’s not familiar. Well, I’m telling you to give it the old “college try.”

Recently, I was asked to try a week of free Yoga. I normally wouldn’t really be that interested but I had made a brief mention about yoga in an earlier post so I decided to try it. having re-visitied that post I now know that the lizard in the picture is doing the crouching dog or resting table position (I can’t remember the names, it was my first time).

It was actually a lot of fun. And I have some serious respect and admiration for the folks who can really do it well. As I mentioned earlier, there is definitely some self-gratification that comes with yoga. It wasn’t anything like I expected.

I’m not going to go into detail because it would be about me struggling to touch my toes for an hour. After I left, however, my body was noticeably more flexible. More importantly though, my mind was clear. I felt less tension and surprisingly, it gave me energy! I don’t really know how else to explain it.

If you haven’t tried yoga, I recommend it. Try something that you haven’t tried. Experience a sub culture of something else. There are thriving communities for just about anything. Pick one. I’m going to try and do something new every month. You should too and then tell me about it.

If you don’t try, you’ll  never know. By trying new things you are able to challenge yourself and find your limits. You’ll give yourself more opportunities than those who are too afraid. It’s the most efficient way to help yourself grow!
Lastly, bring your own mat. The ones they rent out stink like feet.

In the same vein, there's the question that Ann Landers used to pose: "If you decide NOT to [go to law school, etc.], how old will you be when you're 50?"

Thanks for the comment :)

I love that quote!

Now that I think about it, it may have been more along the lines of "How old will you be in three years if you don't...", but that's the spirit of it!
