I’ll be the first one to admit I don’t know a lot about investing. I know it’s a good idea to invest when the market is down, and hopefully, I’ll make some money when the market turns around. That’s about it. I’ve been doing some more research lately and hope to start investing one of these days, but I couldn’t help noticing how similar investing in the stock market is to a career.

very interesting article! I never would have thought of looking at my career as the stock market.

Great comparison. Diversify and keep to the long-term plan. That's what the market and your career is all about!

This is a fantastic comparison. I agree with you completely on #14. So many (career) investors rely on financial advisors (i.e. depending on the advice of friends, career councelors, parents, self help books, etc.) to manage their portfolio's (make their decisions for them because they think others know better) when they should be just as savvy and well-informed as the financial advisor/manager. Asking for expert advice and having a mentor are paramount. But the key (as you mentioned) is to stay on top of your own career by being completely self reliant.

@Benita You can always find comparisons in unique places!

@Jared Thanks for reading!

@Mery I have a couple of mentors, but when it comes down to it, I am making the decisions. Right or wrong, you'll learn from your mistakes.
