I was going to write this post the other night, but I decided to put it off until later. I’ve noticed that I’ve been doing that with a lot of things in my life lately — paying bills, filing my taxes, responding to emails, writing blog posts. Why is this happening?
Studies show that some of the most common reasons for procrastination include:

HAHA, I like jrandom42's comment.
Maybe it's too simplistic, but I think the true reason for any type of procrastination is that you don't want to do whatever it is you are procrastinating to do. You just don't truly want to do it.
Looking at procrastination that way really helped me and made me very productive.
I focus on the things that I do when I procrastinate, and those are usually the things I enjoy doing, so I shift my life toward doing things I like to do. Problem solved.
Ulyana,
What do you do about the things that you don't want to do, but need to do, like paying the bills, cleaning the house, doing the laundry, cleaning the litter box and other unpleasant but necessary chores?
As for me, I don't get a choice of avoiding cleaning the litter box:

Those are so funny! I shared the site with my sis, she'll enjoy it.
I enjoy doing those things. I love my cat, I want him to be healthy, and I love a clean and fresh-smelling house... can't procrastinate.
Bills... I'm a nerd when it comes to finances, but it's the same kind of attitude. I don't like being in debt, or owing fees, so I make sure things are in order.
Laundry... I do that when I'm on my last pair of underwear, LOL.... but I don't consider it procrastination, I do it when it's time to do it.
So, I guess when it comes to chores, I know they need to get done, I'll do them on time.
Things get complicated when you are trying to accomplish some grand goal and a part of the journey is engaging in some tedious or boring activities. That's when I remind myself what exactly I WANT, and the tediousness disappears.
Procrastinating less often is one of my new 'themes'. It's not a New Year's resolution because those just don't last for very long. There's a good article at CNN.com ( http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/12/30/procrastination.economics/index.html )about procrastination. It talks about why people procrastinate and it also gives examples of people using behavioral economics (lose money if you don't meet your commitments) as an incentive to not procrastinate. I think procrastination is one of the hardest nuts for me to crack so I'm still working on this one.
