As your blog grows and the readership increases, you will get people contacting you asking to write guest posts for your blog.

Offers like these are great to get, as it shows that your blog is now attractive for other bloggers to write for and to give away their unique content to, in hope of getting a high-quality link and some visitors.

I have already written enough on why I recommend bloggers write guest posts for bigger blogs in their field, but what about featuring guest posts from other bloggers on your own blog?

I recently got this email from Jade Craven, reader of HowToMakeMyBlog.com:

Hi! I’ve been reading your blog for a while and have been really enjoying your posts on guest posting. I was wondering if you would be interested in a guest post about pitching your best work as the guest post. I understand if you would prefer to keep this as a single authored blog. I just really love this blog and would love to have the chance to post for your community Let me know what you think.

Featuring other bloggers’ on your own blog? Can that bring just as many benefits as writing for other blogs? Here are the pros and cons that I can think of:

Pros when featuring guest posts

  • Less writing work to do for you as a blogger
  • Helps keeping a regular blogging schedule
  • More time for promotion of the blog
  • You can even go on a longer vacation
  • Gives different point of view and perspective

Cons when featuring guest posts

  • You cannot keep your blog as a single authored blog
  • You cannot keep the high-quality standard of articles

I cannot really see too many drawbacks regarding featuring blog posts from other authors on your own blog. It seems to be a good step to help you out in time of need.

As long as you have a very strict quality control, guest posts can improve your blog by bringing different point of view. I also think that only featuring guest posts once in a while is a good step, as it is important not to make them daily occurrences as your blog readers might miss your personal touch.

What do you do on your own blog?

What do you think? Are there any other cons you can think of? Do you feature guest blog posts on your blog? What is your experience with that?

Share and Enjoy:

At this point I am still in the baby stages of my (new) blog. But I have already been considering topics and ideas for guests to jump on board in the way of 'guest-posting'. As you said, it brings an additional point of view into the mix - someone else might have a GREAT idea worth sharing, and it enhances overall readership because people who follow the person who is authoring a guest post will make their way over to your neck of the woods!

P.S. Just checked out your blog for the first time - a lot of good stuff there! Should we go ahead and get working on guest posts for one-another's blogs? :)

I had a guy contact me about 3 months ago asking to write something for my blog. I'd never heard of his blog so I checked it out. He had decent stuff and was a good writer, so I thought sure, why not. Then I realized that he had only been writing for a week or two and had been posting like 3 full length blogs a day. From there I told him to contact me after he'd been writing for a little over 3 months because that is the point at which most new bloggers give up. I also told him to slow down and do at most one post a day or he would completely burnout...

He started listening to my advice about a week later when he began one a day posts... but he still burned out.

On the other hand if someone has a good blog or is a good writer I have no problem featuring them on my blog.

Another pro is that the guest poster will drive traffic to your website by adverstising the fact that their post has been featured. It's also a good way of linking similar content.

I'm a fan of guest posting. If anyone wants to guest post on my blog, or wants me to post on theirs, let me know.

Daniel brought up an interesting point. What standards do you/would you use to decide whether to accept a guest post or not?

I'm a fan of guest posting too, and I think it helps generate more traffic, make your blog more interesting, and gives a different perspective. You can control the quality by asking bloggers you admire and read regularly to guest post on your blog.

My question is: when you write a guest post, do you post it on your blog as well or only on the other person's blog?

I like the idea of writing guest posts for other blogs, and plan to include guest posts on the new blog I am writing and developing: http://mountainstate.typepad.com/leadership/. I think you have all made a lot of great points:being careful about choosing guest authors is very important. I also like Eva's idea that using guest posts links similar content. I have found some of my favorite blogs this way, and love sharing a site I enjoy with others.
