"Its not what you know, its who you know." We've all heard this statement hundreds, if not thousands of times, and as bloggers and people involved in social media, no one networks better than us! Why? Because we all know, that by establishing relationships, and getting to know as many people as we can, doors start opening up and opportunities start presenting themselves.
So why am I telling you something most of you already
To really win with social media you need to develop ways to bring your online identity offline. Tweet Ups are awesome, conferences like SXSW are cool (but expensive), you can also just meet someone you met online for coffee and make an effective offline connection.
You're right, networking online is not enough. In my opinion, it's just the beginning.
Ya I think a lot of people are afraid to make the jump from an online relationship to offline but TweetUps, conferences and associations are a great way to help make the transition.
But I like Ryan's bit of advice, send them a message and take them out to coffee or invite them to check out your office. It's the best way to take the relationship up a level very fast.

@RyanPaugh thanks for the comment! I totally agree with you. I think that some people may find conferences too expensive, and the same goes with joining an association, however, that isn't a good enough excuse to sit home and do nothing. As you mentioned before, networking doesn't have to occur only at these events. If these options are to expensive, they can go to Tweetups (which are almost always free), meet people at a coffee shop or over drinks a a bar/restaurant, or go the their local chamber of commerce meetings. The more they can get out there and meet as many people as possible (within their industry and abroad) the more successful I see them being in the long run. The more people you meet, the more you learn, the more value you can provide for yourself and your consumers.
