Get ready to rumble, Lightweight.
The current job market is like a massive, nasty heavyweight brawler – intimidating, ornery, and intent on crushing your spirit. You, on the other hand, are just a no-name prospect with a handful of professional bouts on your record. The fight hardly seems fair.
The press says you don’t have a chance. Vegas predicts that you will leave the ring on a stretcher and, should you choose to engage the brawler on

The only real difference between the winners and the losers are the winners got back up one more time. I was in my 20s in an economy like this one. And it did suck. But those of us who just keep plugging away did succeed. Think turtle versus hare.

Fear not your more successful rivals - those who try and succeed. Rather rear those that try and fail and then dust themselves off and try again!

I like the boxing theme of the post. Boxing is a sport that requires discipline and patience. It is true that you can punch
yourself out while on the job search. This post hits home in so many ways

We have no choice but to survive it, so we might as well make the most of it.
I've personally found I do better in a down economy. With all the lay-offs, businesses need freelancers and consultants to fill the gaps. It also makes me more creative about starting side-businesses out of sheer survival. Simple things like editing college papers or walkings can turn into real incomes to survive the storm.
Great post, and not a moment too soon. I've found that now is the perfect time to polish myself, both as a person and as a professional. Focusing on how to be a strong contender is so much better than painting yourself as a victim of the times. I still haven't found a full-time job, but I'm still in the ring. And that counts for a lot.

One thing that people are suggesting is to go back to school. That would be OK if you have a lower education or trade. I have way too many Graduate friends who are unable to find jobs since they have graduated with their Masters Degree. There are way too many people who are trying to fight their way out but it is like being in a gang fight - there are more of them then there are of you - and you know who is going to be on the loosing end.
