During last week’s US election, we saw a pretty strong message to the Republican party as a whole. Across the board, Republicans lost ground in every conceivable spot they could. They lost almost everywhere and gained almost nowhere. In short, Republicans could stand to improve next time around if they are going to find relevance again.
In discussing the results of the election, there has been a lot of talk about what’s next for the Republican party, what the

Find people who will be honest with you.
This is challenging people do not like to hear and tell you the truth. As a society we have become scared to tell others the truth.
A belief of non-beneficience, if I do nothing or do not tell you the truth, what is hurting me or is being destructive, I am still on morally good ground.
Although not being truthful is actually not respecting your friends as autonomous beings worthy of respect and honesty as well as accountability.
Find people who are honest with you - although they must be your friend and have a respectful reciprical relationship with you. People who are truthful to hurt you - that is where you listen differently.

Wow - "stop listening to idiot allies" that's a really good one, and really difficult one.
I think it stems from wanting to be liked and agreed with and belonging to the herd, so to speak. But like one of my professors used to say, "There are no monuments built for to committees."

I think you kind of said this, but I'm going to add it anyway:
Stop focusing on your weaknesses.
Here's the thing: It's better to focus on bettering your strengths then fixing your weaknesses. Know your weaknesses. Find someone who's strong in those areas and work with them. I.e. If you're a big-picture thinker, find someone who's detail-oriented and let them worry about the details. Become an even better big-picture thinker. That's where you potential is.

@GenerationXpert - Take the StrengthsFinder test and build from there!
As to people who have the cronic I.D. ten-T error light flashing across their forehead - be careful. They can cause us some grief. They can spread lies and 'assumptions' about you that can stall or kill your career. They generate a aura about that is false. The old saying that perception is reality ... try perception is projection!!! THEIR PROJECTION!!!

Everyone has had really great advice so far. I especially like the point about recognizing your weaknesses. Either finding someone or compensating for it is better than ignoring it.

Lance, well done. This relates to my post tomorrow, which is about commanding your career. I believe that it's the only way to survive this new age of work. At the end of the day, you succeed or fail based on the decision YOU make. Success is permission based though, so making other people succeed first will work in your favor.
