What had you thought of the use of the Letters of Marque and Reprisal introduced twice by Ron Paul since 9-11, that Congress has denied both times?

Killing OBL may be a short term solution, but not a long term one. I think wat people like Greg Mortenson is doing is right, building schools in Afganistan and Pakistan. Remember that the Taliban recruited its people from Madrassas. Madrassas would never have existed if the Pakistani governmnet had spent more time on education than on figuring out who was going to rule and f' up their country.

America's greatest failure? All of us stood by and let the Florida judiciary put this idiot into office in 2000. And what did we do for 8 years? Nothing, but stand by and bitch about him.
Yes, he's an idiot and a world wide embarrassment to the U.S. Now it's time to clean up our own house and fix what's broken. Thanks to Bush Obama has his hands full.

@Milena- I think Paul's legislation was a good idea. Did they pass it? I hadn't heard of it previously. I always thought the war in Afghanistan was justified, but the terms were flawed. We should never have tried to destroy the country or rebuild it in the first place. Targeted missions and legislation would have made it easier to find bin Laden, kill him, and then get the hell out of the country that has brought down so many empires in the past.
@Parth- I don't think that nation building is an appropriate or effective use of our military. Pakistan and Afghanistan are, have always been, and always will be completely f'ed up. The governments are really not the power in these nations. Yes poverty and lack of education contribute to terrorist recruiting, but there are always going to be people who want to kill us as long as we do stupid things like trying to bring democracy to countries and peoples that clearly have no interest in it. Iraq is a civilized, clean, and fully functioning society today compared to those two hellholes.
@Jerry- It's a sad thing that we both re-elected him and didn't impeach him, but it's too late now. Both Clinton and Obama plans suffer so much thanks to the Bushes.

I'm not talking about nation building. And I'm not saying that the US military should handle these projects. Have you never heard of Greg Mortenson and CAI? He's done more for these countries than their governments or the US combined.

Osama bin Laden is a hard target to hit. President Clinton missed him in August 1998 when he ordered missile strikes to kill him. They both failed. The difference was George W. Bush promised it to us. The end result is the same so now we have this threat again unfortunately.

Bin Laden has been incapable of carrying out an attck for 7 years. That's hardly a loss -- and the fact that he hasn't been found is hardly as much Bush's fault as it is Clintons who had him in the crosshairs but let him go becuase of the Lewinsky scandle (and bombed a phramaceutical plant instead). Sorry, but not all of the world's problems are Bush's fault -- well at least not to an observer with any sense of objectivity.
Let's see how long it takes Obama to find Bin Laden.

Rich- Put down the GOP koolaid please. bin Laden has absolutely nothing to do with the Lewinsky scandal. Clinton came closer than any other President to killing bin Laden with missile strikes. The pharma plant was a completely separate incident.
Second of all, bin Laden hasn't hit the homeland, but London, Madrid, and cities all over Asia have been hit since 9/11, and Bush's policies have been his greatest recruiting tool.
Parth- Greg Mortenson has done some great things for Afghanistan and the region in general. Maybe one day they won't have to rely on philanthropy for basic services and education.

Tim,
You can't advocate for banning the death penalty "with one exception." Either it is right to kill in the name of justice or it isn't. It isn't--just ask Jesus, right?

Tim, Koolaide? You need to quit guzzling Obama's bathwater.
Since you are probably too young to know better, have a look at the 9/11 commission report (only portions of which I suspect you cling to). What you just said is an absurdity.
"Bush's policies have been his greatest recruiting tool?" Give me a break. As much as you would like it to be the case, Bush was not reponsible for the European, Indonesian or other attacks.
I am no Bush fan, but at least have the sense to recognize that his policies have exterminated more al quada than your tea and cookies meets the apocolypse views.

@Tim - No, no one passed Paul's legislation. Apparently it was too radical, though it's written directly into our constitution, for use when an enemy is not directly associated with a foreign government. The use of professional mercenaries rewarded by a bountry would have been arguably more effective, and would have hopefully led to a faster resolution, with far less bloodshed.

@Tim - As you said, Bin Laden has not attacked the United States since 9/11. It's not Bush's (or any US President's) job to protect the world (i.e. London or Madrid in this case), but to protect the United States. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there's a reason the United States hasn't been attacked again...
