I don’t understand politics.

I don’t understand why people allow themselves to get so upset. On November 5th, Starbucks will still brew coffee, traffic lights will still turn green, and the U.S. will still be the U.S.

I don’t understand conservative talk radio.

I don’t understand media bias. At all.

I don’t understand how McCain won the GOP spot on the ticket.

I don’t understand why Obama smokes.

I don’t

"I don’t get people who don’t vote." - one reason is that some people, similar to as you describe, don't understand all the political issues and feel that as they don't understand the issues and people they shouldn't vote as they are not sure who to vote for. If you go into business with someone who isn't honest, repeats the same one or two key issues (without going into detail), keeps things from you and you still have questions, doubts and misunderstandings with them, then you can be seen to be a fool. So why would you vote for someone you feel the same way about?

McCain can't raise his arms above his head because his bones were broken and healed improperly. The only way to fix it would be through extensive surgery, probably rebreaking the bones, and a lot of physical therapy. *I'm not a doctor, I just comment on the Internets.

You said what so many are thinking. Why can't we as a leading country be able to teach our youth some of these simple intricacies of our national government.

I do think that this election was one of the most important in our history. I also know that as you said Starbucks will sell coffee, XBoxes will still play Madden and I still have to show up to work in the morning!

I too did not understand my own conscious choice to not vote but as Kat pointed out, your very post is why.

I tried my best to follow the election and the views but the lack of solid information frustrated me to the point where I felt as if no effort was made to make this simple and relatable without being redundant and preachy. I'm excited that history has been made but I'm more concerned with how this decision will affect our future.

Great post!

Hey guys great discussion. I'm sensing a general theme in our discussion that boils down to, "I feel as though I can't vote until I know all (or at least close to all) there is to know about a given candidate."

I'm wondering if this is possible? I wonder if there is a point where you simply have to say, "I've tried" and then go and vote your conscience.

Does that resonate? I think there will always be things we don't know about a candidate. There will always be things people think they know about a candidate.

"I don’t understand why people allow themselves to get so upset. On November 5th, Starbucks will still brew coffee, traffic lights will still turn green, and the U.S. will still be the U.S."

I think that's part of the beauty of our elections. We talk, listen, try to persuade others, and even allow ourselves to get upset (hopefully somewhat controlled) at times to express our views. I'm not saying it's necessary to get upset to express yourself but sometimes it happens that way.
Thankfully, we are able to transfer the balance of power in government in a peaceful and orderly manner after the elections. It must be quite a sight for the rest of the world to see when we express ourselves in such an open manner and hang out all our dirty laundry for everyone to examine.

"I don’t understand how Katie Couric can continue to do her job with any sense of integrity after her interview with Sarah Palin."

Can you clarify this? Having watched the entire interview, all I saw was Katie Couric interviewing a woman who was extremely unqualified and who had been prepped to deliver rhetoric instead of thoughtful, considered responses.

I don't understand why you can't just Google a lot of these to find the answers, when I can.

Both McCain's arms and one of his legs were shattered when he ejected from his aircraft in Vietnam. Everyone says it was the torture—which isn't the case—although the torture I'm sure didn't help him heal properly.

I know, funny source, but Vogue did a pretty good expose and spoke with his cell mate from POW camp:

@KateNonymous--he's doing the reverse Google. He types the questions into his blog and everyone gives him the answers in the comments.

That's not really a reverse Google. That's just using other people instead of Google (or asking people to use Google on your behalf).
