People tend to dislike the word “network” because it just seems like you’re adding a person to your contact list so that he or she can help you in the future.  There have been many posts and speeches given about “building relationships” and not merely just “networking.”  To sum it up in one phrase - you must give before you can take.

Great points Jun! As you know, I did a post on this yesterday.

I'm amazed at how each network goes mainstream everyone wants to get on it. Someone will follow me on Twitter. When I go to their Twitter profile, they're following 1,200 but only have 50 followers! It is all about quality not quantity as you say.

I did see that post, and I think I see it now on the front page of Brazen, congrats!

I think soon I'll do some research on the people who use TopLinkedIn and those Twitter follow-hub sites. I want to know how many of them really have benefited from being part of those connections. Do they really get more business contacts or build more valuable relationships?

Time for me to do some research!
