Let's play a game.
Think of 20 words/phrases that describe you. You can write them down...or entertain me and post them in the comments.
I'll play along and go first. I am (a/an):

I agree. MBTI provides very limited information (those limitations are part of its strength, IMO), yet people often seem to feel that it is an all-encompassing definition that they are not supposed to be able to escape. It indicates tendencies, not an unavoidable destiny. I suspect it's often poorly explained.
I've taken it twice, and it's been well-explained each time. What I particularly liked was that when I came out very close on one letter (I think I scored minutely more I than E), but felt that the other combination was a closer fit, the administrator reinforced that the results were on a spectrum, not a strict measurement.

You are right on about it not being an all-encompassing definition. It would be like saying that #5 on my list told you everything you needed to know about me. The MBTI is one piece of the bigger puzzle of a person.
One of the beauties of the MBTI is that you can use it superficially or very in-depth. The information is only as good as what you do with it.

It’s funny- when I read this I wondered if certain MBTI types are more likely to freak out about being boxed in than others.
