Work Happy Now! is Karl Staib’s blog about “maximizing your work happiness”. When Karl wrote about 6 Things You Should Never Say to Your Boss, all I could think was “Karl, you’ve had some really bad bosses.” It doesn’t need to be like that.

I think these are good clarifications, although #1 isn't what I'd recommend. I don't think it's ever good to "blow off steam" at your boss. Express concerns and issues? Sure. But blow off steam on your own time.
My approach to #2 has been to say "Sure, I can do that. Right now I'm working on X and Y. How do you want me to prioritize these?"
This lets my boss know that I'm willing to be flexible and meet her priorities, but also reminds her that I have other assignments that need to be completed. I have never had a boss (even the bad one) react negatively to this approach.
