Tell Us How Everyone Is Important to Gen Y (A Contest)

For the past few weeks I have been a part of an awesome campaign and project. Being a Social Media Consultant and running an Entertainment Marketing Firm we bring in a fair share of cool clients and off the wall projects. But this one tips the scale.

For the past few weeks I have been a part of an awesome campaign and project. Being a Social Media Consultant and running an Entertainment Marketing Firm we bring in a fair share of cool clients and off the wall projects. But this one tips the scale.

Lee Cockerell is the recently retired Disney World Exec VP of Operations. Basically that means he ran the show over at Disney, from the parks to the resorts to the people and everyone and everything in between. After saying good-bye to Mickey and company Lee set out to write a book and share the magic he helped spread and create, thus spawning his new book, Creating Magic, 10 Common Sense Leadership Strategies From A Life At Disney. Creating Magic is being released by Doubleday Publishing on October 14th at all your major book outlets and online stops.

Lee dialed me in to open the door to Gen-Y. He knew that he could tap into current leaders, CEO’s and the big shots, who read these kinds of books on the regular. Where he wanted to be different was to get Gen-Y involved in leadership now! He saw many young professionals looking to lead early in their careers at Disney and even began to see great team members jump ship to start that process elsewhere. He knew he needed to learn, adjust and be a part of this Generation.

Thus we created a site dedicated to showcasing the great leaders of Gen-Y, Creating Gen-Y Magic. We have featured nonprofit leaders, political movers and shakers, start-up mavens, authors, members of the Brazen Careerist community and people that will change the world before we know it.

Ok, enough of the background. What’s this contest all about?

It is fairly simple. All you need to do is tell us why everyone is important! Everyone you encounter can change and shape your life, and with the emergence of technology and the emphasis on networking, this is a key point in the lives of Millennials.

To play:

  1. Voluntarily download the 3rd chapter from Creating Magic, “Everyone is Important.” It’s free and a great read!
  2. Write a quick post on why you think everyone is important.
  3. Leave a comment on this post with the link of your post so we know to check it out.
  4. Feel free to link to Lee’s site, the book or Creating Gen-Y Magic, although this is not necessary to win.
  5. Join the conversation with other young professionals in the contest. We are all learning together. So comment away, spread the link love and Tweet away!

The prizes:

  1. 1st Place: A signed copy of Creating Magic and a $25 iTunes Gift Card
  2. 2nd Place: A signed copy of Creating Magic and a $10 iTunes Gift Card
  3. 3rd Place: A signed copy of Creating Magic

Good luck and continue to Create Magic in the lives of others with your writing, your work, your businesses and most importantly your actions.

Thanks!

Greg: I'm hoping it's okay if I just leave my post as a comment. It's much easier for me. And contest aside, I'd just like to share my "Everyone Is Important" story.

Maybe others will follow suit and contribute this way ...

The 1st thing that comes to mind when I think about why everyone is important is Brazen Careerist (the company). Over the past year we've evolved.

From three people yelling at each other in a dive coffee shop to a company that's steadily growing in numbers, we've created something that we're all pretty proud of. And we couldn't have done that if we didn't take the time to appreciate each of our unique strengths. No doubt, every one of us was important.

Today, it's the exact same way. Every member of our team brings something different--but equally as important--to the table.

What I love the most about this concept--that everyone is important--is that it makes for a better community. The line between leadership and everybody else becomes blurred. And you actually discover that there's a little bit of leader in everybody.

Thanks for taking the time to share Lee's book w/ us. Hope some more people leave comments ... I guess I shouldn't be encouraging the competition, but whatever.

Ryan,

Perfectly acceptable! I think the Brazen movement is a true testament to believing that everyone is important. I have met so many new people with backgrounds that you could never imagine, from PR people to travelers to girls who don't want weddings to 2 kids who moved from good jobs in the city to middle of nowhere to start a company. Without all of these people, connections would be lost and careers would not progress. So yes, the Brazen group truly is Creating Magic!

P.S. I have no problems with people leaving comments here for the contest! Let's just get people talking and there is nothing wrong with friendly competition.
