I’m sorry I’ve been absent as of late. I’ve been bombarded with freelance writing and editing work, which is extremely exciting. Unfortunately, much of it arrived around the same time (when it rains, it pours) so I’ve had very little time for personal blogging. I’ll try to still update from time to time.

I was glued to the television the night Hurricane Ike struck Texas; nearly all my family lives in Houston and Gavleston is dear to my heart sin

I'll fess up. I catch myself doing this sometimes. And it's totally stupid. Sometimes dangerous.
I think what we all need to realize, especially as technology makes communicating anywhere so seamless, is that whatever we have to say can wait. Take it down a notch and don't become so consumed.
The messed up part is, I'm writing this from my phone, in an airport terminal. But at least I'm sitting. Not hustling to catch a plane, bumping into people along the way.
Hopefully that's a step in the right direction for me.

I've been considering upgrading to a Blackberry recently (my phone is on the fritz), but this is one of the reasons I think I might hold off a little longer. I'm not big on texting, but friends of mine who have upgraded to phones with full keyboards seem to be using them all the time, while driving, walking, even when we're out to dinner together. It always struck me as kind of rude, but it's good to be reminded that it can be dangerous, as well.

Texting and driving will be illegal in CA in January 2009. I believe it's already illegal in WA state.
