I was at my parents house perusing through my old diaries and smiled at how fearless I was with my writing when I was younger. Back then, I didn't care if I projected rejection or desperation. Back then, I just wanted to get it out of my system in it's purest most organic state. In December 2001, I wrote about how I hadn't been kissed since September. I

This is so true. After having found a job that does 'pay my bills' and has jump started my career, I am finding it hard to move on and further advance myself.
One thing I keep telling myself to force me to move is that; first, I already have a job, so looking and interviewing can't hurt. Second, I have not hit the peak of my career and am far from it, the only why I'll get to the top is to keep going.
Leaving the first job can be difficult, but so rewarding. There is only one way to find out.

Your post is very insightful - great thoughts. I think the advice of "Just take any job - no matter what" is probably given whether or not the economy is doing well. I think, unfortunately, there is a stigma associated with jobseekers who turn down offers (or have been on the search longer than others think they should) because they want to make sure they find a job/career they truly enjoy. Also, jobseekers who have had a few hard knocks are more likely to repeat the cycle of taking the first job an employer offers them. this only leads to being unhappy down the road, because most assuredly, the job was taken out of desperation (and that's not clear thinking). Finding a job is hard enough, there is no reason to take a crappy one just to pay the bills!

Great post Kiersten. It can be so difficult at times to take a job just to pay the bills when you are so tired of searching and the bills pile up. I have worked as a temp many times just to fill in the in between time before I find something that I think I would like. I am actually explaining this process to my fiance who has been out of work for almost a year. He wants to make his money and I keep reiterating that making money while doing something you love, wouldn't hurt either. He's slowly warming up to the idea but it is hard for him to get out of the take anything mindset.

@Anonymous--I'm struggling with the same thing, but like my grandma says "you gotta know better to DO better" and the knowing only comes from the looking
@Raven--Exactly! Don't get me wrong bills are important, but at the end of the day, so is your sanity. If you're going to spend the bulk of your time somewhere I just think you should enjoy it!
@Tiffany--The money is there for him to make! He's just gotta choose something, then choose to be great at it. You're right, that choice is much easier when you love it.
