The Brazen Careerist D.C. Recap: Why Bringing Your Online Community Offline is So Crucial

Last week’s Brazen Careerist meet up in Washington, D.C. was an important milestone for our team.

8 RESPONSES TO "THE BRAZEN CAREERIST D.C. RECAP: WHY BRINGING YOUR ONLINE COMMUNITY OFFLINE IS SO CRUCIAL"

Miriam Salpeter, Keppie Careers

Ryan,
I couldn't agree with you more. Social/online networking is amazing for creating connections and forming relationships. The internet and telephone allow me to coach clients around the country and around the world.

That said, there is nothing like meeting face-to-face to solidify relationships and strengthen bonds. My favorite networking groups have online and in-person options.

In seeking to expand our connections and networking opportunities, we should all focus on a combination of in-person and virtual meetings. Sacrificing one for the other is like eating peanut butter without jelly. You can do it, but it’s not as good!

That sounds really awesome. I agree that face-to-face relationships have nothing on online ones, and that's definitely what turns some people off about online communities. Come to Austin after NYC!

I had an absolutely amazing time hanging out with the other DC bloggers! Great to meet both Ryans as well :) Definitely solidified by relationship with the group and what is going on. Looking forward to next time!

I'm so happy everyone who made it out to D.C. had such an amazing time. I loved it, and can't wait to go back. But I'm sure our NYC crew knows how to party as well. See you guys soon...

Miriam: Absolutely! One thing I definitely dislike is the PB without the J. It's so important to have a little bit of both.

Emily: After reading David's post today I definitely want to do a meet up in Austin. I have to see for myself what all of this "Keep Austin Weird" business is all about. Sounds fun.

Andre: Thanks! Hearing that Brazen, D.C. helped solidify relationships in our community is exactly what I wanted to hear. Made my day.

Great, so you are now at the partying stage of your startup. How soon until you monetize all this networking and navel gazing?

Maus: There's plenty going on in the realm on monetization. But that will never change how important our community is to us.

I think what's important to remember is bringing community closer has a value all it's own, even if it's not directly associated w/ a dollar sign.

I would definitely drive from Houston to head to an Austin meetup. I've got friends there anyway. Face-to-face meetings are definitely the most exciting part about social networking.

Anyone want to meet up in the Twin Cities?
