The idea of being on the cutting edge is such an interesting question - like, when you think you are on it you are probably not. I think the cutting edge probably feels a little crazy. Like, you have an idea that you think is good, and you keep looking around yourself wondering why no one else is thinking like you. So if you are on the cutting edge you probably feel like you are bordering not so much on the verge of creative genius, but rather on the verge of nuts.

I like that description of it : ) It feels applicable to me based on a business plan or two that I've pitched/been involved with. Reminds me of the comment. You're a genius if it works, you were nuts if it didn't.

That all, of course, depends on how far ahead you're looking. A year out? I'd call it trend spotting more than innovating. 2-5 years out? Now we're talking some innovation on the scale of being called a genius (I like to err on the side of success).
