I think limiting your information intake to what's relevant and useful is very important as you mention about RSS feeds. Information intake, like calorie intake should be something you monitor. Going on media diets from time to time is also good practice as discuss here: http://snipurl.com/2u4am.

We're all prone to a bit of media grazing and it's rarely a useful activity.
