2 RESPONSES TO "IS THIS JOB REALLY FOR ME?"

That’s great advice. I’m really starting to realize how much you learn from just listening to the veterans around the company.

There isn’t a manual out there for the ins and outs of the business. The case studies we did back in college haven’t really taught me the useful stuff I need on a daily basis.

It’s amazing what you learn when you’re just willing to listen.

One other piece of advice: Soak up as much information as you can. Most entry level jobs expose you to the reality of your industry. You can put Otto von Bismarck's quote about learning from others' mistakes, by getting mid level and senior people to talk about their experiences, what they've learned, and how they've applied it. Very few of them can resist telling the there-I-was stories on how the company and industry work in the real world. In some industries, over 80% of the conventional wisdom and knowledge is orally transmitted, so it's a good idea to find a mentor, or at least a good informational resource to help you dig through the mysteries you find at work. Think of it as an apprentice learning from the journeyman/master.
