What it's like to work in Smaller Town America

I live in Small Town America, but I work in Smaller Town America.At least twice per week,

Here's the problem with Smaller Town America. If you're too different, like an ethnic minority, you'll never be accepted, no matter how long you've lived there or how hard you try to fit in.

Spent several years in a smaller town in Oregon. I'm Asian-American and was never accepted, was ostrasized by neighbors, treated with suspicion by local businesses, harassed by the local cops and generally shunned by one and all.

Moved to a big suburb and was immediately welcomed not only by the local Asian-American community, but by my neighbors and have forged alliances and friendships with local businesses.

I guess fitting in Smaller Town America only works if you look like them.
