  1. THE small BUSINESS

This is a good weighing of the pros and cons behind a service like this. I work in a very small business capacity so skype’s all-in-one VOIP package seemed like a great deal to my company at first, but as you point out the reliability does become an issue. The place we hurt the most was in voicemail — the system would be down, or there’d be some funky stuff that would lead to us getting messages late, etc. Not exactly the best way to “stay connected”. In the end we wound up doing what many other small businesses have done and just got a regular phone service with gotvmail as our advanced voicemail. I think that for businesses it makes more sense to invest a little more in a reliable, virtual PBX or some other solution. But don’t get me wrong…we certainly have not heard the last of voip alternatives and I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole industry switches over one day.

  2. Sorry to hear about the problems you have been having Sarah. For anyone who’s having these sort of difficulties, why not check out Vonage? We believe we can offer a more reliable service with far superior call quality. Calls are made over your broadband connection, like Skype, but you don’t need to have your computer switched on and with Vonage you can use your existing touch tone phone. We offer services both for small business and home users and we are confident that you’d never get any sorts of customer service issues when you use our service - we do not tie you into a contract either so if you are not happy you can always cancel your subscription. Full details of our service can be found at http://www.vonage.co.uk - we can give you a 30 day money back guarantee as well so by all means give us a try.
