Thoughtful post, Carla.

The learning curve from high school to college is significant and my best advice is to anticipate and even greater one when you graduate from college and have to market yourself in the working world.

There are tons of people all doing fabulous things in the same niche, but as you point out self-knowledge is key and can definitely set you apart.
