For those of you who missed the news, Starbucks launched a social media site called My Starbucks Idea. Those of you savvy readers may find a striking resemblance between My Starbucks Idea and Dell’s IdeaStorm. That’s because they’re the same thing, contrary to what Starbucks says.

Nathan,

The comment made by one of the Starbucks reps that you quote sounds more like they're looking for a way to explain how ridiculous their Wi-Fi policy is than solicit feedback from their patrons.

If they really want to effectively use social media they need to get a more personal spokesperson running this thing. I'm not looking for someone to explain why it is a certain way, I want to know why it can't be better. And if it can be better, what are they going to do to make it better?

Ryan,

You're dead on. Not only that, at some point they need to take the step and venture outside of their newly created online world. Comment on some blogs, etc.

Btw, I like the title you guys gave my post better than my own :-p

This is the time of year when, every time the phone rings here at Veritas Prep HQ, there's a good chance it's an applicant calling to ask us if he should apply to business school in the third admissions round, or if he should wait until next year. The answer, as is the answer for most things in life, is "It depends."

Personal Branding

When I embarked on my blog journey last December, I thought of it as just an extension of who I was, professionally and personally. I also looked at the blog as a way of being creative. It’s become more than that to me and those of you that read this. My blog is now part of my personal brand.
