I recently lead a workshop geared towards college leadership. As I wandered through the various other workshops I heard a lot of the same thing. Students with a view of leadership not being very realistic. SO I changed my workshop to ask the students what is the non-glamorous or “dirty” side to leadership. We spent the entire time - working as a team to realize that what students learn in college is not realistic views of leaderhship. Volunteering and working within communities is a perfect exposure to the harshness of being a leader - and having to make some really tough calls that many people will not like.
